What does a farm kid do all summer? The number one goal is to avoid thinking about the coming school year! Yikes! Beyond that, here are a few things that a farmer’s kid might find himself doing during the summer:
- Pick a few blueberries

2. Enjoy eating things made with those blueberries

3. Catch a runaway hen. Even if it’s after church services and you’re wearing your “good clothes”

4. Help drive up the cattle to the pens

5. Hang out on the back of a pickup truck with your Grandaddy

6. Help out at the farmer’s market
7. Giggle at your goofy pets

8. Attend a few VBS sessions

9. En route to a fireworks show, admire a beautiful fourth of July sunset

10. Cool off with a swim in the creek

11. Check some cows with your brothers

12. Enjoy the rope swing at your Granny’s house

13. Drive a tractor

14. Roast a few marshmallows

We may be busy and life may be hectic, but we spend a lot of time together. In the end, I’d say that’s pretty important. We are very far from perfect, but hopefully sweet childhood memories are being made. Memories that will last a lifetime. And a certain Grandmama says, “dirt makes you grow.” We’re doing a lot of growing on the farm during these summer days!
