Lil bit of art for the cows

We took the kids with us to fix fence. You know, to teach them responsibility and how to complete a job and all. The hope is that maybe one day they can fix fence while Dustin and I supervise. Or while Dustin supervises and I bake cookies or something. Hey, a girl has to have dreams.

Well, this is what our little fence-builders-in-training were able to accomplish:

Sure, that fence post needed a little chalk decoration. I guess it adds some character. And maybe the calves that are in that pasture will stop and appreciate a little art. Who knows? Ha! Nice work, guys!

We did pick a few paperwhites when we finished our chores that day. There is a nice sized patch of them growing nearby and the kids picked a lot of them. I know that one day they won’t be interested in picking flowers for their mom (sniff, sniff) so I’m soaking up these sweet moments now.

The boys have been such great helpers lately. They really enjoy taking care of my hens all by themselves. Gathering eggs is always a fun job.

We’re all really looking forward to finishing up our school year. So we can do other things. Like hang out in a field and watch puffy clouds in the sky. Sounds like a plan, right? I’m all in.

In beef news: we expect to pick up our USDA inspected beef from the processor in approximately 3 weeks. Our freezers will be well stocked and we are very excited to open up our shop here on the farm to all of you. We’ve received a lot of positive feedback concerning our beef and we appreciate that so very much. Becoming a vendor at the Athens farmer’s market is also in the works, so watch for news about that.

In the meantime, we’re spending all of our extra time getting hay equipment ready to use. Here’s my main squeeze, doing his thing. He keeps everything running smoothly. It isn’t always pretty or fun, but at the end of the day the work gets done.

I saw this sunset a couple of nights ago and just couldn’t resist snapping a photo. No matter how many sunsets (or sunrises) I’ve seen, the one I’m currently enjoying is always the best. I hope you’re all having a great spring season so far! And thanks for reading!
